Anthony Giaccio
Anthony Giaccio concentrates his practice on patent litigation, prosecution, counseling, licensing and technology transfer for U.S. and foreign clients.
Mr. Giaccio has significant experience in management, procurement and enforcement of U.S. and international intellectual property rights across a diverse body of technical disciplines; in counseling clients regarding patent infringement and patent validity; in preparing agreements and assignments involving intellectual property rights; and in advising clients on many legal issues relating to licensing, technology transfer, business development, acquisition and investment due diligence reviews, and strategies for identifying, protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights.
He also has substantial experience in a diversity of technical disciplines, primarily in the biotechnology sector (including isolation of genes and gene therapy, tumor suppressor genes and proteins, cell growth stimulators, and monoclonal antibodies), chemical, medical and pharmaceutical fields (including medical devices, medical articles having specialized coatings, medical monitoring systems, anatomical multibody modeling systems, anti-microbial compositions, anti-irritants, compositions for eliciting immune responses, chemical sensors, biochemical sensors, blood gas sensors, chemical composition for dyes, intraocular implants and controlled release of medicaments), energy sector (including alternative energy fuels, biodegradable and renewable polymers for packaging, hydrocarbon gas processing, liquid natural gas processing, bulk gas separation, and cryogenic gas liquids recovery), and industrial and mechanical arts (including disposable shaving razors, automotive tires, vehicle suspension systems and energy efficient roofing shingles).
Prior to joining Kenyon & Kenyon as a senior associate in the Spring of 2003, Mr. Giaccio was special counsel at a law firm in New York City concentrating in intellectual property. He has also worked as a legislative attorney for the Honorable John A. Fusco, formerly a New York City council member and presently New York State surrogate court judge in Richmond County.
In 2011, Mr. Giaccio was selected to receive the Linn Inn Alliance Distinguished Service medal, presented by Federal Circuit Judge Richard Linn, for his outstanding leadership in bringing the American Inns of Court experience to the IP community. American Inns of Court are designed to improve the skills, professionalism and ethics of the bench and bar. Mr. Giaccio is co-founder (2008), Secretary/Treasurer (2008-), and chair of the executive committee (2008-) of the Hon. William C. Conner Inn of Court. The Conner Inn of Court is the first Intellectual Property focused American Inn of Court in New York and the seventh in the nation. He is also co-founder (2010) and Secretary/Treasurer (2010-) of the Intellectual Property and Innovation American Inn of Court. The IP and Innovation American Inn of Court is the second Intellectual Property focused American Inn of Court in New York and the twelfth in the nation.
Mr. Giaccio was invited by the American Bar Foundation to become a Fellow, which membership is limited to attorneys who have distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements in the legal profession. He has been a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation since 2005.
Mr. Giaccio is a Past President of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association. He has served from 2008-2009 as President, 2007-2008 as President Elect, 2006-2007 as First Vice President, 2005-2006 as Second Vice President, 2003-2005 as a Board of Director and from 1998-2003 as chair of the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association. He is currently chair of the Public and Judicial Personnel Committee of the NYIPLA.
Mr. Giaccio is a member of the Empire State Stem Cell Board Intellectual Property Workgroup (2009-).
Mr. Giaccio is a co-director of the Joint Patent Practice CLE, Inc. (2001-) and member of the Joint Patent Practice CLE Planning Committee (1999-). He was a 2009 Planning Committee member of the Second Circuit Judiciary Conference. He has spoken at many intellectual property conferences.
