Press Release

New York, May 27, 2008 -- Anthony Giaccio, a partner at Kenyon & Kenyon, was sworn in as president of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association on May 21 at the University Club in Manhattan.

The NYIPLA was founded in 1922 and its first president was William Houston Kenyon, a founding partner of Kenyon & Kenyon who served as president of the Association for three years. Mr. Giaccio is the ninth Kenyon partner to serve as president of the Association.

The New York Intellectual Property Law Association, formerly known as the New York Patent Law Association, was conceived as an organization through which patent lawyers in New York could make their views known in Washington and provide support for the judiciary. The NYIPLA currently serves as a vehicle to promote the development and administration of intellectual property interests. The NYIPLA strives to educate the public and members of the bar in this particular field and continually works with foreign associations to harmonize the substance and interpretation of international conventions for the protection of intellectual property. Today, the NYIPLA consists of nearly 1,500 intellectual property attorneys practicing throughout the US and abroad.

Mr. Giaccio, who will serve a one-year term, concentrates his practice on patent litigation, prosecution, counseling, licensing and technology transfer for US and foreign clients. He has significant experience in managing, procuring and enforcing US and international intellectual property rights across diverse technical disciplines; in counseling clients regarding patent infringement and patent validity; in preparing agreements and assignments involving intellectual property rights; and in advising clients on many legal issues relating to licensing, technology transfer, business development, and strategies for identifying, protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights.

He also has substantial experience in various technical disciplines, primarily in the biotechnology sector (including isolation of genes and gene therapy, tumor suppressor genes and proteins, cell growth stimulators and monoclonal antibodies), chemical, medical and pharmaceutical fields (including medical devices, medical articles having specialized coatings, medical monitoring systems, anatomical multibody modeling systems, anti-microbial compositions, anti-irritants, compositions for eliciting immune responses, chemical sensors, biochemical sensors, blood gas sensors, chemical compositions for dyes, intraocular implants and controlled release of medicaments), and industrial and mechanical arts (including hydrocarbon gas processing, liquid natural gas processing, bulk gas separation, cryogenic gas liquids recovery, disposable shaving razors, automotive tires, vehicle suspension systems and roofing shingles).

Prior to joining Kenyon as a senior associate in 2003, Mr. Giaccio was special counsel at a law firm in New York City concentrating in intellectual property law.  He has also worked as a legislative attorney for the Honorable John A. Fusco, a former New York City council member who is currently a state Supreme Court judge in Richmond County (Staten Island, NY).  Mr. Giaccio has a JD from Albany Law School and an LLM in Trade Regulation from NYU School of Law.

In 2005, Mr. Giaccio was invited to become a fellow by the American Bar Foundation, whose membership is limited to attorneys who have distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements in the legal profession.
